This paper talks about Russian-Ukrainian relations in the context of the political unrest which began in Crimea in early 2014. The author argues that the situation in Ukraine is part of a drawn out game between post-Soviet Russia and the West over influence in the region. The key questions to ask now are: Can Russia reassert its power over the entire Ukraine? Will Moscow be content will fueling internal instability in Ukraine? or Will Russia attempt to increase its influence by supporting secessionist groups?
