This book includes a collection of policy briefs on Japan’s key foreign policy challenges in East Asia and its relations with China as well as North and South Korea. Each brief deals with a different country or issue, yet each also addresses the following questions: 1) What are Japan’s policy goals?; 2) In what context have these objectives been formed?; 3) What are Japan’s challenges in accomplishing these goals?; 4) Can cooperation with the United States help Japan advance these goals?; and 5) What policy recommendations can be offered for consideration?
