This paper analyzes the implications of Moscow’s annexation of Crimea and continuing tensions over Ukraine for East Asia. According to the author, implications for the region can be seen in three broad categories: 1) as an example, which could be followed elsewhere (i.e. China’s sovereignty claims in the South China Sea); 2) as a distraction of the EU’s and the US attention from East Asia; and 3) as a disruption to diplomatic relations between East-Asian nations and the EU, the US and Russia.
