This paper explores various aspects of the territorial disputes that exist in the South China Sea. It looks at, for example, 1) the colliding claims between the Philippines and China, 2) Manila's formal presentation of its claims to an arbitration tribunal in The Hague (in March 2014), 3) an illustrative skirmish that occurred between the Philippine Navy and China's Coast Guard on 29 March 2014, 4) China's territorial disputes with other countries bordering the South China Sea, and 5) the US's position on these disputes.
