This paper analyzes changes in migration flows and policies in Turkey since the early 20th century. In particular, the author analyses the foreign and domestic processes underlying the changes in migration and argues that since the 1960s, Turkey has transitioned from being a net emigration to a net immigration country. The author also talks about how Turkey’s migration policies have been affected by the country’s exposure to globalization and its integration into the European migratory system as well as how changes in international migration have altered relations between Turkey and the EU.
