This paper examines India’s engagement with Afghanistan, including its provision of aid and development assistance, prior to the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan in 2014. The author argues that India’s strategic partnership agreement with Afghanistan signed in 2011, its organization of an investment summit for Afghanistan in 2012, and its a trilateral summit with Afghanistan and the US at the 6th annual session of the UN General Assembly, demonstrate India’s determination to continue to work in Afghanistan beyond 2014. However, she also argues that it is not yet clear if India’s strategy for Afghanistan will succeed.
