This commentary discusses support campaigns in Indonesia for the terrorist group the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) and the security concerns they raise regarding links between local and global jihadi groups. The author argues the campaigns do not necessarily signal the emergence of an ISIS affiliate in the country. Instead, she suggests these events are the local reflection of the growing rivalry between Jihadist groups globally following the split between ISIS and Al-Qaeda. However, she also suggests the campaigns are concerning in that they potentially contribute to the blurring of the lines between extremism and terrorism.
