This paper addresses the state of the transformation process in Yemen, as initiated and defined by the roadmap of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The author first provides an outline of the main political factions in the country, including their composition, interests and strengths as well as how they have been affected by the transition process. He then goes on to argue that the GCC initiated process has only brought about a superficial transition on the political level and that the conflicts in the country are far from resolved. Finally, he states what he thinks European facilitators of the GCC process should do enable a meaningful transition.
