This brief discusses the position of West Bengal's political parties ahead of the 2014 parliamentary elections in India. The author first explains the reasons behind the Trinamool Congress party’s 2011 defeat of the Left Front in West Bengal's state elections and its continued electoral strength. He then discusses the Trinamool’s electoral strategy for the 2014 elections, as well as the reasons for the weakened state of the Left Front. Finally, he addresses the electoral strategies and strengths of the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party parties in West Bengal.
