This paper addresses the history and present day redevelopment of land connectivity in Asia. It first provides a brief history of the Silk Road trading routes and the reasons for their decline. It then looks at the factors that have led to the revival of land connectivity in Asia and the efforts by countries in the region, including China, to make this happen. The author argues that while efforts to revive the Northern Silk Road are moving ahead, more action is required to redevelop the Southwestern Silk Road, which connects South and Central Asia with southern China and the ASEAN nations.
