This paper discusses the spread of the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-COV) and the re-emergence of the wild polio virus since 2012 and the implications this has for global health management. The author also addresses the increasing trend of disease resistance to antibiotics and what it means for global disease surveillance and control.
