This paper discusses the breakdown of the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, in March 2014, led by US Secretary of State Kerry, and the mistakes which led to their failure. It then comments on President Mahmoud Abbas’s attempts to return the Gaza Strip, currently governed by Hamas, to the control of the Palestinian Authority and on his chances of achieving success. The author concludes by emphasizing the US’ responsibility to prevent a further deterioration of relations between Israel and Palestine by devising a new peace process with a different strategy.
