The commentary addresses China’s stationing of an oil rig in disputed territory in the South China Sea in May 2014 and what this means for Beijing’s relations with the ASEAN nations. The author also discusses how this action seems contrary to diplomatic measures taken by China in 2013 to improve relations between itself and ASEAN.
