This paper discusses how states can best protect sporting events from terrorist attacks, with a particular focus on how this can be achieved in Singapore. The authors suggest that just increasing the defense of a sporting event could lead potential attackers to seek more accessible targets or to use more lethal methods against the defended target. Consequently, they advocate that states attempting to protect sporting venues from attacks should adopt a balanced approach that focuses on both security and the ability to respond to a potential attack.
