This paper explores tensions between India and Pakistan, how they could be affected if Iran develops a nuclear capability and potential Saudi Arabian responses to Iran's nuclear weapons program. The author argues that the stability of the situation between India and Pakistan is less certain than at any time since 1998 due to India's expansion of its military forces as well as Pakistan's acceleration of its pursuit of tactical nuclear weapons. He also argues that an Iranian acquisition of a nuclear weapon will not directly affect Indian-Pakistan tensions, but it could lead to a transfer of nuclear capabilities from Islamabad to Saudi Arabia. Finally, he explores the implications of the situation in South Asia for the US.
