This paper offers a brief history and technical appraisal of the Soviet S-5 rocket and how it has been adapted from an air-to-surface role into a makeshift surface-to-surface weapon. The authors also explain how and in what configuration it is most commonly used, the effectiveness of the rockets and the capabilities of other variants in the S-5 series.
