This brief examines the June 9th 2014 Taliban attack on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. The author contends that this attack put an end to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s strategy of addressing extremism by negotiating peace with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an umbrella organization of various Islamist militant groups in the FATA region. He then provides an overview of how extremism has struck deep roots in the Pakistani soil and concludes by emphasizing that the Muslim world is once again in turmoil.
