This brief examines what China’s move to station one of its oil rigs in disputed territory in the South China Sea reveals about Beijing's foreign policy strategy. The author then looks at how this strategy may affect the country's relations with Indonesia and India, especially in light of the electoral promises on foreign policy made by the new Nerendra Modi government in Delhi.
