This report presents an overview of existing forms of security cooperation in South Asia and discusses reasons for further collaboration and prospects for it. The author finds that the absence of a regional organization for security cooperation in South Asia is made up by a variety of forms of security collaboration between India and its neighbors. He also addresses the reasons for this collaboration, highlighting changes in India’s South Asia policy since the 1990s and the convergence of national security perceptions in the region. He then discusses the future of security architecture in the region and outlines options for how the EU and Germany could support security collaboration in this part of Asia.
