This paper discusses the implications of the June 2014 military successes of the armed extremist group, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). In particular, the authors examine 1) ISIS’ desire to remove the national borders in the Middle East; 2) the threat the group poses to Jordan; 3) the effects the group's success could have on US strategy towards the Middle East; and 4) the factors behind the success of ISIS and other jihadist organizations. They also address what Israel should do so that it can respond to the effect ISIS has had on the region.
