This brief examines the visit of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bhutan in June 2014 and reflects on the key issues affecting the relationship between the two countries. The author contends that for India, Bhutan is not only of great strategic importance, but also constitutes a very significant energy supplier. He also considers China’s presence in the region and what it means for India's relations with Bhutan.
