This commentary argues that once a ceasefire to the hostilities which started in July 2014 between Israel and Hamas is established, Israel will face significant political problems at home and a far less sympathetic diplomatic environment abroad. The author contends that this is because Israel's conduct has 1) strengthened Hamas politically; 2) led to domestic calls for a review of the government's handling of the crisis and its military strategy; and 3) negatively affected the country's relations with its closest allies.
