This paper examines China's claims to the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea and argues that they are based on centuries of verifiable historical records, long-term use, treaties as well as international and customary laws. The authors also briefly review a number of specific pieces of historical evidence which they suggest back up China's claims to the islands.
