This paper explores Japan-North Korea relations and the ongoing dialogue between the two countries over North Korea’s abduction of Japanese nationals in the 1970s and 80s. The author argues that the progress made in the dialogue as well as Japan’s lifting of sanctions against North Korea is a positive development towards a normalization of Japan-North Korea relations.
