This paper discusses the implications of Joko Widodo's victory in Indonesia's 2014 presidential elections suggesting that it could be a major step forward in the country's democratic development. The author also provides a brief biography of Joko Widodo, assesses what he will be able to offer the country as president and reviews some of the main challenges he will have to tackle while in office.
