This brief summarizes three reasons for optimism and three reasons for pessimism for the future trajectory of Indo-US relations. Reasons for optimism include growing shared geopolitical interests and high-level bilateral trade in civilian goods. Reasons for pessimism include India’s non-alignment strategy and restrictions on foreign investments. The author concludes with some suggestions for addressing the challenges outlined in the pessimistic outlook.
