This paper analyzes the implications of the July-August 2014 Israeli military offensive against Gaza. The author argues that while negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians in Cairo may calm tensions in the short term, they will not do so in the medium or long term as many of the root causes of the tensions - such as the blockade of Gaza and Israel's settlements in the West Bank - remain.
