This analysis looks at what the author sees as some of the factors behind public support in Israel of the July-August 2014 campaign against Hamas in Gaza. These include 1) the nature of Hamas itself; 2) the perception of Israelis that they were directly threatened by Hamas during the July-August conflict; and 3) the support the Israeli campaign received from prominent Egyptians and Saudi Arabians. The author also discusses the outcome of the conflict and suggests it will disappoint most Israelis as it demonstrates the inability of the country to formulate a strategy for dealing with Hamas and the Palestinian territories in general.
