This publication discusses how the US Department of Defense (DoD) and US Agency for International Development (USAID) cooperate with each other in order to enhance America’s national security and foreign policy interests. More specifically, it 1) analyzes the history, policies, coordination structures, and experiences of these two interacting bodies; 2) identifies the trends and challenges they mutually face; and 3) provides recommendations on how to improve their interagency engagement, particularly through joint planning, field programming and broader staff exchanges.
