This paper examines the strategic relations and cooperation between India and the US following the election of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2014. The author suggests that following the Cold War and India’s shift toward market economics, international observers expected that the shared democratic values of India and the US would lead to a convergence of interests and subsequently further cooperation. These expectations, he argues, have largely gone unfulfilled. He then discusses what he thinks both countries should do to improve strategic ties with one another.
