This paper examines Russia’s East Asia Policy by looking at its military, political and economic dimensions. The author argues that in all three of these dimensions, Moscow has so far been unable to back its ambitions in East Asia with corresponding capacities; and outlines a variety of reasons for the limited success of Moscow’s policy. In the conclusion, the author also reflects on the implications of Russia’s increasing interest in East Asia for Germany and Europe.
