This paper describes the strategic, economic and diplomatic significance of the Sino-Indian Joint Statement issued on 19 September 2014 following talks between India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In particular, the author examines 1) whether these talks might lead to a final settlement of the Sino-Indian border dispute; 2) whether they can prompt the two countries to further cooperate on civil nuclear matters and space satellites; 3) and how the talks could affect bilateral trade and economic relations between China and India.
