This commentary examines China's strategy toward the Middle East and argues that it has a long term approach to the region that Beijing believes will enable it to secure access to the region's resources and trade as well as cooperation with the US on its own terms. The author also suggests that this approach is heavily influenced by the assumption in Beijing that US influence is in decline.
