This commentary outlines the Chinese People's Liberation Army's (PLA) achievements in weapons upgrades, organizational reform and improving training exercises and leadership. The author also examines 1) how China's military forces will attempt to continue to build on these accomplishments; 2) the challenges that may hinder such an objective; and 3) the PLA's continuing deficiencies in its combat capabilities.
