This commentary outlines a strategy for how to fight the ideological battle against extremist Islamist movements, especially the Islamic State, and prevent them from gaining recruits and sympathizers from across the Arab world and beyond. In particular, the author explains how morality, tolerance, moderation, inclusivity and good government all are key in efforts to undermine the appeal of militant Islamist movements and the Muslim Brotherhood. He also uses the UAE as a model to demonstrate how to implement these five elements and to demonstrate how the country managed to escape the turmoil faced by other Arab nations.
