This commentary looks at the Brazilian defense industry's original expansion in the 1960s, its collapse in the early 1990s and its recent revival. To sustain the industry's momentum, however, the commentary argues that Brasilia should forget about going head-to-head with Western arms-producers. Instead, it should follow the lead of smaller nations and specialize in high-technology and/or niche products.
