This paper discusses how elitism and authoritarianism continue to define the Egyptian state, despite post-2011 attempts to reform the way people are governed within the country. As a result, political stagnation, economic deterioration and bureaucratic failure will continue to threaten the long-term survival of the Egyptian state.
