This commentary examines the form Indonesia's foreign policy could take under President Joko Widodo, who assumed office in October 2014. The author suggests that the President's foreign policy aim will be to expand Indonesia's foreign policy scope to include the Indian Ocean and to position the country as pivotal in the promotion of security in the Indo-Pacific region. He also contends that while it may be the case that President Jokowi will have to contend with intense domestic challenges, this does not mean he will completely abandon the internationalist policy outlook of his predecessor.
