This commentary examines the challenges Indonesia’s maritime policy faces under President Joko Widodo, who assumed office in October 2014. The author contends that besides securing the country's sea-lanes and overcoming logistical hurdles, the policy must address the needs of Indonesia's fishing and sea-based communities across the archipelago.
