This brief looks at the defense cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and analyzes the strategic opportunities that could be generated by the foundation of a unified military command; which was decided in the GCC’s 34th summit in December 2013. The author also discusses the political challenges that could hamper the GCC countries’ attempt to evolve towards a real military alliance.
