This commentary discusses the ongoing demonstrations in Hong Kong in October 2014. The author examines the reasons for the impasse between the pro-democracy protesters and the Chinese government and proposes possible end scenarios. He argues that pro-democracy protesters should start being realistic in their expectation of change in order to prevent risking the alienation of Hong Kong from Beijing.
