This commentary examines how China can maintain its food security in the coming years. The authors argue that in next two decades, China’s total demand for agricultural products will increase in the face of diminishing water and land resources, making the task of feeding 1.3 billion Chinese people even more challenging. They then suggest a global agricultural strategy which would enable Beijing to safeguard national food security, while at the same time, tackling rising domestic demand for agricultural resources in the face of environmental pressures.
