This issue looks at Australia's role in the war against the Islamic State (IS) and other terrorist organizations in 2014. The author argues that the new conflict between secular societies and radical Islamists will be the dominant theme for global conflict in the 21st century and that Australia should especially consider the potential for religiously motivated terror attacks on its territory. To address the situation, the author recommends that Australia prioritize the protection of vital infrastructure using defensive measures.
