This paper provides an overview of two 2014 protest movements: the Occupy Central movement in Hong Kong and the Sunflower Movement in Taiwan. The author also examines what these protests mean for the Chinese government and argues that the Communist Party leaders will not be able to withhold democratic reform for much longer as the protesters are unlikely to stop their calls for change anytime soon.
