This paper examines the history of relations between Sri Lanka and Europe since the 16th century as well as their contemporary economic and political ties. The author also examines how peace building could be instituted in the country following the country's civil war, which ended in 2009, and how the Sri Lankan government responded to the efforts of Western countries to apply the concept of Responsibility to Protect to the country.
