This commentary examines China’s initiatives to increase its role in the economic affairs of the Asia-Pacific, the impact that this could have on the regional influence of the US and its regional partners, and how the US has responded to Beijing's measures. The author argues that the US response to China's initatives demonstrate that it is attempting to work against Beijing and that this may be a critical mistake as it could undermine Washington’s relevance in Asia as China takes on greater regional and global responsibilities in the future.
