This commentary discusses what the book ‘The Governance of China’ - a collection of speeches by Chinese President Xi Jinping - demonstrates about the Communist Party of China (CPC) and how Beijing thinks of the role it will play in Asia in the future. The author argues that the book suggests that China envisages that it will have a pivotal place and role in the development of an integrated and prosperous Asia. The author also highlights that there is an absence in the speeches of references to the West and its role in Asia.
