This paper examines direct and indirect violence against health workers in complex security environments, such as those characterized by factors including armed conflict, extreme poverty, environmental disaster and weak governance. In particular, the author discusses the scope and drivers of the problem and organizational responses to it before looking at how international law can be used to address the issue.
