This report examines the political and economic impact of natural resource development, especially that of oil and gas resources and aid for trade initiatives, in sub-Saharan Africa. More specifically, the authors 1) examine how the governments of Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda intend to exploit their countries' oil and gas resources; 2) review petroleum contract negotiations in Africa and the factors that affect the terms and conditions of exploration and production activities; and 3) look at developments in aid for trade in Africa as well as at research on the topic.
