This paper compares perceptions of the levels of power projection and engagement which the US and China have in the Asia Pacific region in 2014. The authors point out that while China's engagement is viewed as increasingly assertive, the US is perceived to be increasingly disengaged and this, they say, should worry policymakers in Washington.
